Identity theft remains
unknown to the victim for quite sometime. Meanwhile the
unauthorized credit on his name gets accumulated and
reported in the credit report. Checking your credit
report on a regular basis can avoid unauthorized credit
dealings in your name. The people who indulge in such an
act are called identity thieves. An identity thief gets
information such as a person's credit card number,
social security number, savings account details without
the victim's knowledge and uses it to his advantage, but
all the billings are posted on to the victim's name
without his/her knowledge. When the bills are not paid
on time, they get reported on your credit report as
delinquent account. This is definitely a negative
listing in your report which in turn affects your credit
file. Having a check on financial accounts and on
unexplained withdrawals and charges can prevent or
curtail reporting due to identity theft. Another way to
prevent it is to keep a false alert in your credit
report. The FTC can facilitate you to dispute false
entries into your credit report due to identity theft.
As soon as you know that you are a victim of identity
theft, lodge a complaint and take immediate action to
avoid further complications. |
