Nobody has the right to
delete any negative listings from the credit reports
until the time period specified by the FCRA. However,
wrong/ false statements in the credit reports can be
disputed by individuals. The FTC works for the consumers
to prevent false reporting, deceptive and unfair
business practices and facilitates the consumers to
fight for their right as far as credit reports are
concerned. So, the law allows reinvestigation in case of
doubts arising with regard to credit reports. You can
ask the reporting agency for a dispute form or send your
dispute in writing with reasons, along with the
documents which would support your stand. Send only a
copy of your supportive documents and not the
originals. You can also intimate the same to lenders or
other businesses to whom you have applied for some
credit help. And, once the dispute is sorted out, the
same needs to be corrected in the credit report in case
of change and intimated to the credit grantors or others
who are required to evaluate your credit worthiness. |
